From Pen to Paper

All of our calligraphy wedding suites start the same way: with pen and paper. Each piece in the suite, including the invitation, RSVP card, details, and envelopes, is handwritten in full using a traditional oblique holder, nibs, and ink. Once everything is written, we scan each piece at high resolution to preserve the detail and character of the original ink work. We then digitally arrange the layout, making sure spacing, alignment, and scale are right for print. The composition remains true to the hand-drawn lettering. We just refine it so it's press-ready.

The final design is turned into a plate, which is used on the letterpress. Each sheet of paper is fed manually, one at a time, and pressed with ink to create the deep, tactile impression letterpress is known for.

One of our recent favorites was Mary Elliott’s wedding suite. It featured a completely handwritten invitation paired with additional cards that combined handwritten calligraphy headings with typed supporting details. All were letterpress printed in black ink on soft white cotton paper. The simplicity of the black-on-white palette let the letterforms take center stage, and the impression from the press brought the calligraphy to life in a striking way.

The result is a fully hand-done suite: written by hand, printed by hand, and designed to feel thoughtful from start to finish.
